My wife and I don't buy each other birthday and Christmas gifts (okay, sometimes I do). Instead we consider the things we spend on ourselves throught each year our gifts to each other. Her favourite item: a holiday in a nice beachfront with ocean view apartment at Byron Bay, clothing and a bit of jewelry now and then (not over the top stuff, but nice - you know) and for myself - well, photography gear, who'da guessed?
Well we both got (or will get) our gifts for this coming year. The holiday is booked and after only about 6 months with the D7000 - which, is a fabulous camera - I'm upgrading to the D700. It's ordered and paid for and now I wait for delivery. I'm really looking forward to this year in more learning and trying to become a more skillful photographer both behind the camera and in processing. The D700 will be the last stop camera-wise (unless maybe a major lotto win comes our way in the distant future) and I'm getting excited about stepping up to full frame. I will lose the D7000 and a few lenses to help pay for my silliness, but fortunately I have the main glass I need for the FX upgrade save a further upgrade to a VR2 70-200mm and an FX capable wide angle later (much) on. I feel very fortunate to have found DPS where I have learnt a heck of a lot (and expect much more), met some great friendly cyber people, and I'm grateful to the moderators who give their time for this forum and who aslo made me feel good about a couple of images here and there. To all of you here I wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2012 and may your photography obsessions lead you not into temptation as it has led me.

I'm a Canon user so the Nikon bit doesn't excite me much but a flash new camera is exciting in any language. Congrats Bruce, look forward to seeing some of the pics from your new baby.
