Default new washing machines with glass lids?

After 14 years our washer machine died yesterday. We went to go buy another and WOW washers sure have changed a lot in the past 14 years lol I got a nice whirlpool top loading 4.5 cubic foot one. Its friggin HUGE on the inside.

Anyway, while looking for the one I wanted the majority of new washers that are top loaded come with glass tops. Is dirty laundry going round and round THAT interesting? What is up with all of these glass lid washing machines?! It would seem like the glass would crack the moment you put a basket on it.

All side loading washing machines have glass fronts.. It's so you can see how dirty the water is and how good a job the machine is doing..

Either that or so you can see when it's stopped

Interesting that your specs are in cubic feet, in Australia we size our washing machines by the maximum weight of laundry you can load into it, i.e.8.5kg.
btw glass is very strong, how many times have you slammed a car door without the window breaking? ..if your anything like my kids the answer is a gazillion.

But this is a top loading one, not side? It seems they are going with all glass lids now.
I heard some bad things about the front loading washers. I had 3 friends who had issues with mold and stinky washers as the water makes it behind the seal and grows mold? To be safe I went with the top loading one with no agitator.

Many stove tops are glass and don't break when you put metal pots (and in our house plenty of cast iron ones) on them. I'm not worried about a washing machine. Glass front (or top) washing machines are excellent entertainment for small kids, lol.

Windows on washers so you can see if the family cat got tossed in the rinse and spin cycle.

Sorry that's the first visual that popped in my head, you have this cat staring back at you with the look of just wait until I get out the curtains are toast.

Although Richard and Biomech responses are much better

I've never had a top loading one, and never had a problem with front loading ones.. LoL.. I don't think our washing machine gets switched off long enough to get mould.

You do know you aren't supposed to put your small kids in there?

Or so that I can see when my 1 yr old has put the pets inside there again. It has happened I swear. Never a dull moment in this household...
