Default Oh no more earthquakes!

Once more Christchurch has been shattered by not one but 3 violent shallow earthquakes this afternoon. Firstly a 5.8 at 2pm followed by a 5.3 and a 6 within an hour & a half along with swarms of minor quakes. Minor injuries, collapsed buildings, cliffs and boulders crashing down around the hill suburbs and that bloody liquefaction is back with a vengeance. Major flooding, roads and sewers ruptured and reports still coming in. So many people in tears, it's heartbreaking, malls, shops and workplaces all evacuated. People wandering aimlessly around, roads getting clogged with traffic as people try to get home, power out and mobile phone networks overloaded. Shops and supermarkets filled to capacity with feastive food and goods that have come crashing to the ground. Right before Christmas what a disaster. So, so sad.

Thank you everybody for your kind comments. It looks like the most significant damage will be psychological along with the impact on the confidence of the people of the city who were looking forward to seeing the back of this year. Now they'll go into the New Year with many aftershocks and more uncertainty with regards to their homes and some suburbs. There have been 36 shakes since the first quake yesterday, with many over 4 magnitude.

I felt that second, large one, even down here in Dunedin. Kept waiting for a phone call all yesterday but looks like things are well in hand up there. They've had plenty of practice now.
Kia kaha Christchurch.
