Default Downloading photos??!

So, I've noticed that on a lot of people's Flickr accounts, if you go to the 'All Sizes' page of a picture, there is a button that says, 'Download the large size of this photo.'
Then on some other accounts, that page says, 'The owner has disabled downloading of their photos.'

Well, I would really prefer that people couldn't download my photos. So, I really want to ask, HOW do you make it where people can't? I've checked the "Privacy and Permissions' tab, and the FAQ. I can't find anything about that!

If anyone knows how to set it to where that button doesn't let people download it, please let me know! Thnx!

Go here: http://www.flickr.com/account/prefs/.../?from=privacy and make sure you're looking at "Who can access your original image files and other sizes" change it to anything other than any flickr member or anyone (the link should take you to your own account settings).

Also, make sure your images aren't licensed as creative commons as I believe that overrides the settings on that (but I'm not 100% sure).

Nicole beat me to it, but to confirm, a Creative Commons license does override your default privacy/download settings, since the idea of Creative Commons is to allow sharing and redistribution.

Also - you may want to make only up to size medium available. Copying the photo is simply a matter of taking a screenshot by pressing "Print Screen" and then pasting into any photo program such as Paint. So if "large" or "original" are available, they can be captured/copied by screen capture.

Couldn't they take a screenshot of any size of the photo? Why just large?

Actually, I don't think there's any way of doing that, other than to upload at the Medium size(s). They used to do that, but since the Large size is always available via the public Flickr APIs, there were a gazillion ways around it, so they make the Large publicly available, too, now, rather than give you a false sense of security.

The only thing you can really protect via the Flickr settings is your Original size.

Didn't know they had changed that. TNH - yes anyone can take a screenshot of any size image - just that much less useful to a thief if it is a smaller image. But looks like all you can protect via this route is the original size.
