Default Start them young

How old were your kids when (if) they started picking up your love of photography?

My 5 yr old has changed from "I want to take a photo!!! My turn!" to thinking about a shot and asking for my help. Encouraging to say the least.

Default too cute!

My kids love picking up my camera and they both told me they want to be photographers when they grow up; which my fiance promptly said
"I dont know if i can handle more than 1 of you." lol

My 8 year old is getting a simple P&S Nikon for Christmas, she is going to love it!

My daughter is 3 years old and has her own P&S camera already which she takes with her everywhere.

Although she did start by using my Canon 30D and 50mm which she still insists on using and I let her walk around the house with it by herself.

I don't know if she'll become a photographer and I don't care, but I do think she'll grow up with a basic understanding of photography. The aesthetics of it is all up to her and I think her fresh and curious eyes make very interesting, compositional images.

I don't have kids, but I treat my cats like my kids :-), and wish I would be able to put my camera in front of them to get them to help me sometimes on shoots! (joking of course)

My stepson has been using our point and shoot for many years.. He made a stop motion film of Lego when he was 8... He's now 12 and looking to getting into 3D modelling on the computer and spent the summer being "director" and "producer" of a film he made with his mates in the summer on their mobile phones and the P&S. We're fortunate enough to live somewhere that the kids can go out and play for hours on their own without us worrying about them.

Both of my kids love photography. My son is 14 and my daughter is 6 - both of them have been at it for about three years. Here's my daughter at age 3:

Like Mother, Like Daughter!

Now that we have enough cameras to go around both my kids like taking photos. My 16 yr old daughter will occasionally take my DSLR and go off and experiment with shutter speeds & aperture values - I'll find 100 shots of the same subject with varying degrees of DOF & lighting on the card! And she is occasionally willing to listen to words of advice on composition etc from me.
My 11 yr old son, on the other hand, is just a happy snapper. I think he takes the photos because everyone else is although he is quite willing to take direction and takes some good shots when he thinks about it.
I'm just happy that they can both take photos without cutting off heads and feet too often.

My youngest some started making movies for school assignments, with his school friends, when he was about 14,. Now days (he's 23) he basically just takes vacation/travel snaps wit a P&S camera.

The funny thing is...I never taught her that. It's just in her, I guess!
