Default How Picky Are You?

In regards to the photos you upload to Flickr, this site, etc.

As my other hobbies tend to die down in the fall/winter, I tend to get more interested in photography. So going through my Flickr photos, I've found a lot I haven't been completely happy with. I've found numerous occasions where I had settled for an alright picture instead of not having one to upload. Or a number of shots of the same subject, where one or two of the better ones would have been fine.

I know not all the photos we take are ones we absolutely love, but where do you draw the line between photos you really like and ones that are technically sound but just don't do it for you?

In essence, how picky are you when choosing shots to upload online and share with the world?

I have found that I am uploading many fewer pictures than in the past. Either I am becoming more picky or my photographs are getting worse. I prefer to think I'm becoming more picky

Looking through my previous uploads to Flickr, I find myself disappointed at the photos I have there. But this is the first year I've been seriously into photography, and my abilities have improved to the point where I now know I can get the occasional decent shot, instead of just putting up stuff that is mediocre. I've started using 500px for some carefully selected photos that will be deleted if I dn't like them.. 500Px has become my portfolio site, and Flickr has become a bit of a dump. I'm thinking of removing all the photos I have in Flickr, then just uploading stuff that has 5* in my Lightroom. However this means losing a bunch of comments from friends, so I'm holding on to that idea for a while..

Now Photobucket.. He he.. 3* and above will go there, along with photos from my phone.

Well I just deleted about 75 pics off my Flickr because I've gotten a bit more picky. All but two of my first few uploads have been deleted and a lot in between.
As I start getting more really good shots I'll be deleting more and more mediocre ones.

It all depends on the reason for uploading in the first place.
Sometimes, I upload to share with friends and family, like my travel pics, so they're mainly snapshots. Otherwise, I do tend to be more picky and upload only the "best of the moment".

if you don't mind seeing the photos if you're logged in to Flickr, I'd highly recommend just turning them private. That way you don't lose your comments, but you're also able to just show the public your best work.

I've got over 600 photos on Flickr. I'm going to download them using Downloadr, then delete the ones that don't have comments. I need to have a tidy up, I want to be left with about 200, and then wlrk from there.. Rules for me will basically be:

5* => 500px
4*+ => Flickr
Holidays and family photos etc. => Photobucket.

I'm fairly picky now. Or rather, I think I've refined what I use Flickr for.

The better I get and the more complex or rather, more planned and executed my photos are becoming, the less I put on because I want to get a reaction out of each photo, not just a trickle out of a lot of similar or "normal" photos. I don't use it as a stream of photos, rather a place to put photographs I'm the most proud of.

I've gone from getting 15 views and maybe the odd favourite to apparently consistent 100+ odd views with 2 or more favourites and a couple of comments simply by working on photos and posting only the very best.

It's like when you start out and you take a million photos of everything and then you start to realise they're just the standard photos that everyone takes when they are starting and have limited resources or places or people to shoot etc.

I'm way too picky, I have only 60 photos in my Flickr account, and I uploaded only 18 in this year. I find that a lot of photos I take are technically good, but if a photo doesn't satisfy me aesthetically, I won't "publish" it. I'm probably too picky.

Good to see there's a lot of people like me. I only started serious photography 2 years ago, and looking through my Flickr, it seems like I uploaded a lot of just alright shots.

I've deleted some of this kind of stuff from my Flickr and I'm going to start being pickier about what I upload. Like some others, I feel my pictures are getting better (for the most part). I've gotten over the "I've got a camera and need to take pictures of EVERYTHING!!" phase and my shots are getting more planned I'm thinking more about shots before I take them.

I also use photobucket for dumping snapshots, mobile phone uploads, etc. So at least my Flickr isn't cluttered with that stuff.

Anybody else care to share?
