Default NexGen Gallery Plugin...major problems...anybody else experience this?

As you can see from the title, i'm having problems with NexGen Gallery Plugin for Wordpress.

Usually, when i do a blog post i just put the photos into their own gallery for that particular post, and then make the thumbnails large enough for viewing (say 800x600) so that way viewers have the option to just scroll through, or else they can click on one of the images and browse in a lightbox with keyboard navigation.

the other day i uploaded some and noticed that they looked extremely washed out when i made the thumbnails large, yet when i clicked on the image, they looked as they were supposed to. it's almost as if NexGen is somehow storing 2 versions of the photo?

i tested this on Firefox, thumbnails look fine when opened in the lightbox. however, in Chrome, they remain in their gross washed-out state. what gives?

here are 2 photos to show you what i mean. on the left is Chrome (washed out) and on the right is Firefox, which is what the files look like when viewing them in Windows Picture Viewer.

anybody else have this problem, or do you know what the heck is going on?

Must be something the plugin is doing to get the photos into the plugin.

Did you change the color space you are working in photoshop?

sorry, was i too wordy, or are they too pretty?

and hmmm, this was the first time i've converted from NEF to TIFF to JPEG...so maybe that has something to do with it. i didn't PURPOSELY change anything, but that's a possibility

it's just so weird how there are 2 different versions of the photo somehow. it must be something that was done while creating the thumbnail. ill look into my settings.

okay, i notice in the TIFF Save settings, there is an option for "pixel order;" RGBRGB or RRGGBB.

i had RGBRGB checked.

do you think this would have made a difference, especially after converting to JPEG? wouldn't the JPEG settings have overrode/overridden (?) the TIFF settings?

any more ideas? i have tried deleting and re-uploading the files, and they're still screwy. i've also tried re-uploading older files, and they are fine so it appears it is JUST these files that are effected.

weird part is some were processed from NEF>TIFF>JPEG, some from NEF>JPEG, yet they are all effected by the weird color change.
