Lightbulb Protect your smart phone... move to Australia

With the rise of muggings in San Francisco, CA, USA, to steal smart phones, comes this bit of news. Your smart phone is safer in Australia.

An easy way to curb smart-phone thieves

I need to think about emigrating.

Don't rush in, there may not be anything attractive about Australia left soon.

All they're doing is blocking the IMEI number. They do that here in Europe too.. However it doesn't make your phone safe from stealing, the thief only needs to sell it on Ebay to someone in a country that doesn't share your IMEI database.. Everywhere that's not Aus for example. It helps, but it doen't make it worthless.

Yep - folks are going to take them no matter what and try to sell them somewhere. Look at iPhones...even if they can't get them to work on the networks, they sell well as generic iPods....now if it had a remote detonation feature....now that would be useful

Just keep in mind there are some thing that a different, here in Australia than the USA.

(1) Much tighter gun laws.

(2) Voting in all elections is compulsory for Australian citizens.

(3) No native deciduous native trees. (Fall colours are very isolated and local)

(4) No native green trees (gum trees are blue/grey)

(5) Iced water is not normally served with meals, unless you ask for it.

i think you just have said it according to the comparison. if Aus is enough developed then the mugging rate will also increase
i heard that in some parts of AUS you don't have access to your mobile. so why they will be mugged without having a smart phone?
so they remain same right?

Well, so now Australia is not developed enough because we don't have enough muggings here. I had no idea that Australia is listed as an under-developed country.

So all those other third-world countries must be really developed because they have muggings on a daily basis.

I like living in an undeveloped country, if the number of muggings is a sign of development.

"i heard" are the operative words.
