Just watched Extreme Makeover Home Edition. This one was about the Walker Family and about how their son/brother/nephew/grandson committed suicide because of being bullied at school. The design team started a website in their honor. You print your number, take a photo of you holding the number, and upload it to the website in support to help stop bullying.
Stand Together At the end of the show they were at 13,300. Now since the show has aired, when I looked it up it was at 34,000. Just 30 mins later and a refresh of the page, put it at 42,000. Let's see if we can make it a million or more. |

I was bullied for a while. It stopped when I stood up for myself and started swinging back against the bullies. Punched them in the face. They retaliated, once, and I was never bullied again.
I know bullying is a problem, but people do need to learn how to stand up for themselves. Running for help will only get you so far. What happens when the "help" are the ones doing the bullying? |

My brother-in-laws son committed suicide because of bullying.. One day he never came mome from school, he was found hanging in a tree. Such a shame, he was a lovely, talented boy.
The trouble with bullying is identifying when it is happening and putting a stop to it before it has some lasting damage. And how do you intervene? The bullys are often the nicest people in other situations, and the victims are often victims to more than one group of bullies.. Do you deal with the bullies to prevent further bullying? The victims to teach them how not to be victimised? How do you do that and ensure it has a lasting positive effect? How do you get people to talk about it without making the situation worse? It's a lovely thing to say that it should be wiped out, but how?

Got my number. Just need to print and make a snap. Thanks for sharing FG. I was bullied too. I never liked or wanted to fight, but I did hit back, and when I did, I hurt them bad. It scared even me. Some of my old bullies are some really good friends now. Go figure?
I think bullying is a lot worse these days. Used to, when you got home from school, you could escape it to a degree. Now, with the heavy presence of social networking, it makes it harder and harder to get away from. Even if the person being bullied doesn't have a profile on a network, and tries to stay out of it, the bullying hits a much larger audience now. |
