Default 55mm 0.45x Wide Angle Lens for Sony A200

Hello All,

I just bought a lens and I thought it was wide angle only but when I read the script it said fish eye also,

I understand it screws onto my existing lens but it can do so in 2 ways

It can be separated in two pieces (unscrewed): macro part and wide angle part. So you can use it both ways: like macro lens (without wide angle part) and like wide angle with macro together!

I know that might sound like the explaqnantion I need but can anyone expand on this?

Thank you as always,

Best wishes
Graeme

Sounds like you got a macro |&&| wide conversion filter. They go around a lot on ebay as "lenses" - I suppose, technically, they are.

When you go really wide, it distorts the picture significantly and is often known as a fish-eye too.

Yeah, the macro part basically a convex lens shortens your focal length, so you can move your lens closer to the subject, and it will therefore be bigger on your sensor.

The wide angle/fish eye lens is basically a special type of convex lens.

Neither does anything different to the prime lenses that achieve the same effect, except the quality of the imge is usually substantially worse.
