I don't think it's released just yet, but the RRP is around $300 I believe, which isn't too bad. It's not particularly high end, but a cool concept.
Of course it just means that morons can take even worse pictures and have the tech fix it for them even more now...

I think it's currently a solution in search of a problem. As a tech demo, it's interesting, and I suspect there might be some problem for which light-field photography is the right answer, but I don't see one right now.

I received an invitation to pre-order one of those and I decided against it. It looks cool, but I would rather wait and see a few reviews before I even think about it. Seems like with everything new, they have to work the bugs out and it takes a few editions before they get it right.

Interesting idea.. I've read a lot about this before. It doesn't give completely unlimited focus depth, it creates a picture cube instead of square and I think the first photos it produces will only be around 1mpix, but it does present some interesting possibilites other than fixing badly focused photos in PP.

I think the most interesting application is going to be in creating holographic images. Since it records a depth of sharp focus, it is possible to layer those focal planes in such a way that you can have a 3 dimentional image.

Still a long way to go, but interesting idea for a niche market for the moment. Autofocus is still better.

I may be wrong, but it seems to me that the images on their website only work as a flash object loaded with several jpegs of the same scene using different focal points.

That's kind of how it's been sold to end users. Focus after th point. The images on their site didn't look that sharp to me, but that could be the camera or it could be jpg compression.

The website also says that the camera + software only works on mac right now, so either way I'm waiting for reviews before potentially buying this. I do like the design, though. In a digital world, there's no reason to have a camera shaped to move film from one spool to another.
