Default Long shot

Apologies if you were drawn in by the photography pun

I don't suppose anyone here has experience with the Android App-Inventer platform? I need to make something but it means learning it all from scratch :P

Not the particular App Inventor implementation, but I've got experience on the Java side of Android. If you've done any Java, it's not too hard to get started with it.

I've done no Java :P
I'm trying to make an app where the user takes 4 photos and the app compiles them into a "strip" with a chosen image mask :P

I'm with you up till the "chosen image mask" part, haha. Not sure what you mean by that.

Basically it would place the 4 photos on a white rectangle, then essentially put another image over the top of that all colourful, but with 4 holes cut in it for the photos to show through

How good are you with web technologies? This sounds like something that might be doable with HTML5 (canvas) and Java(-)script, and if you make it a web app, then you can deploy out to Android, iOS, and Blackberry via browsers, and then eventually wrap it up with something like PhoneGap to make native versions you can put up on the Android Marketplace or iTMS.

See: Web Apps Overview | Android Developers

Phonegap.

Oh gotcha. Yeah, that wouldn't be too bad to build, I wouldn't think. You might try checking out StackOverflow, there's a pretty big Android community on there (me included, but I don't have any experience with the App Inventor).

Inkista's idea is good too.

I have 3 options;

Learn Java
Learn AppInventer - I could probably make it in a week
Get someone else to do it :P

I put it out on a rentacoder site and some guy has offered to do it for £55 so I might take him up on that. My therapist keeps telling me I need to trust other people :/

Not to undermine your trust ( :P ) but have you checked out if the guy has any other apps already published? I say that because there is a lot of CRAP in the Android Market since the barrier to entry is so low. Make sure it's worth the 55, haha. Granted, even a decently designed app at 55 is a bargain.
