A 5 year old couldn't drive a F1 car round a track. Sebastian Vettal couldn't ride a kids bike round the track and win.. But an Vettal was a 5 year old once, and probably rode a kids bike..

Learn to walk before you run.

So John, what does driving a car has to do with taking pictures? As I type this, there are folks out there taking pictures on auto, or "P" for professional, and listening to their friends, who are telling them to turn pro and take pictures for a living. There's no way a person with a kit camera can compete with those who have the pro gear and fast lenses, unless they sell their images cheap as hell!

And it was 100% fine. No problems.

Unless you're a hardcore adventure photographer and travel to the Antarctic, you'll almost certainly never need anything "more weather resistant" than the D7000.

Just putting that out there

I beg to differ. Where there is salt air ( where I live live) or lots of dust, the sealed bodies will come into their own - and that doesn't mean care shouldn't be taken. Water running off a camera means little - it can be hit or miss. Still, I would make sure my investment was protected whatever camera it might be.

I loved my D7000, it's a great camera, so is the D700 and many others. I'm not being precious about it.

I'd suggest though that nobody follows Steves example and throws their precious weather sealed camera in the river while white water rafting.. Apparently it's not THAT water resistant.. Eh Steve?
