After much harrasment from my kids I finally gave up my beloved "dumb" phone and got ----- an iPhone.

In other words, Apple’s way of getting you to buy a new phone is to make you really happy with your current one, whereas apparently Android phone makers think they can get you to buy a new phone by making you really unhappy with your current one. Then again, all of this may be ascribing motives and intent where none exist - it’s entirely possible that the root cause of the problem is just flat-out bad management (and/or the aforementioned spectacular dumbness).

First off, updates depend on the phone maker (Motorola, Samsung, etc). Can't say much about the others, but my Samsung has received constant updates, and is scheduled for ICS in 1-2 months.

Also, Android vs. Iphone

While I am a die hard PC user, I believe that Apple has superior products in the handheld market. I already own an iPod Touch and an iPad and just love the way they work. The only problem I have with them is they want the users to be dumb and really don't let you delve into the file system or what the device is doing. This is fine for content using devices (tablet, phone, etc...) but for my PC which is a content generating device I really want to have a full understanding of what is going on and be able to control things more indepth.

Not super techie but that comparison is a bit outdated (syncing, carriers, etc.) and some of the things that the site is trying to paint as detractors to the iPhone could also be seen as pluses. Just switched from a Droid X to an iPhone, suffice it to say I won't be switching back to Android.

Androids are ideally suited to tinkerers, those that want a large breadth of apps to choose from (basically unlimited) and might be prone to do things like root the phone and load customized firmware for extra functionality.

The iPhone is probably better suited to those that want a good quality device that remains uniform and polished across both hardware and user interface.

That said, I own an HTC handset (one I merrily got for free for a contract re-up) and am completely satisfied. They make good handsets, and their UI is very well polished.

Amen. I knew that "analysis" was reaching when it used company stock price as a data point. Also... Flash as a selling point. Very strong, especially considering Adobe just pulled the plug on mobile Flash development. Lolz. Guess Stevsie was right after all.

Well my wife has an iPhone and I have a Motorola Android - I'd never swap. I never have a problem or drop-out and I can always receive and make calls where she can't.

I agree, its not very convincing, but it does outline a lot of the differences. No idea why they snuck in the stock thing, especially since both are huge companies and there are a lot more factors besides their mobile OS.

And Flash is kinda a big deal. How many times have you seen the die?
