Now I see my problem as to why my photos suck. I guess taking that small step back and stooping just a bit is not the way to go. Leaning back and sticking my neck forward is the way to go. Damn those fancy schools.

Yeah. Try doing that with a telephoto lens the size of Lithuania. When I used my 100-400mm and had to shoot up, of course, I leaned like that (as I do all the time as I find it more comfortable and stable) and damn it, just killed me. My neck did hurt for days!!

I've seen a lot of people with damn good DSLR cameras around (including acquaintances) that seem lazy when taking photos. THey don't change angles, they don't move around, they just stand there and snap. Sometimes I want to tell them to move around at least, or get down at children's level, etc, but then I don't cause I dont' want to be perceived as miss know-it-all.

Except on this site.

Anyhow, the photograph unfairly depicts the differences in stances: the tourist is using a little p&s and viewing the lcd screen and the grad student is using a viewfinder on a dslr. I wonder how a camera swap would alter the comaprison?

Also, I hope she's using a high sp - I know I'd have trouble keeping my camera still with a stance like that

Plus she has to be a successful photog as she can toss one bag of goods to the ground have better control of her camera. The GOOD stuff is still on her arm.

Do men and women photographers stand differently, you think?

I stand like her when I shoot, however, you made me think if men photographers stand like that. From memory, I think men stand more with leg apart and center balance.....

Or am I wrong?

All I know is if I tried that stance my lens would be doing a nice small figure of eight, my back would begin to hurt and I'd look like a dope. Step back I say!
