Default Am I in trouble?

I'm not having a go at the Mods, but at people who post innapropriately here.

There are a range of forum areas to post queries about cameras, lenses and PP. Yet some continually post in the General Chit Chat area. Some time ago the Mods were pretty vigilant and moved posts all the time, but not so much lately.

Whos on today, aha no one.

Help the Mods, tell the wrong posters to get their act together and we all be happy.

Cheers,

John W

I think Big Fuzzy is in charge of the GCC threads...

The problem is when you post in the appropriate forum you rarely get any response.

Pretty much we're all in charge of moving threads that are in the wrong spot. I can't even remember how many I've moved this week. Friendly reminders of better places to post in can be helpful. Remember, there are a lot more threads than mods though (and shock horror, sometimes we try to have lives... I went ice skating today, outdoors on a gorgeous spring day. Yeah, I know you're not having a go, Woody. I'm not having a go either )

And in terms of Ambrosia's comment... well, I hate to say it and maybe I'm just cranky today, but if people posted in the appropriate forums, then they'd have a lot more traffic and comments would be more likely to get responses.

I think a huge part of the problem is the lack of mods. With 200 000 members, and no more than 20 (?) moderators that all (clam to ) have lives outside of DPS, well you can see where the math is against you.

I think yoiu have a point here John, I have noticed a lot of gear/PP type posts in GCC lately. Mostly from newer members. Is it because they think they won't get much of a response on the more appropriate forum? Or because they just don't bother to have a look around the forums and read the rules first?

A good point here too. although on the few occasions I have posted in the gear/advice pages I've had very good responses and its not hard to bump the posts to wait for more replies.
I'd endorse John's suggestion of making a Polite suggestion to the OP to post their questions in the appropriate section.
Lets keep the GCC section clear for the daily drivel/rants & youtube videos we all come here for!

I find it's hit or miss - mostly miss - in some of the forums, but I agree, people should post in the appropriate sections. And people should learn how to upload photographs so we don't have to follow links or wait for thumbnails open up - really annoying imo! Overall I think the mods do a great job - however the webmaster is another story

But DPS is great - I've learnt heaps here - there's a few words I never knew, but I do now

I've actually been noticing lately that a LOT of people view the gear section more than GCC. For instance, when I read this thread earlier, there were 57 people viewing the gear section and only 21 in GCC. It's been this way a few days ago since I started 'reading' that thread and seeing how many people go there.

However, though, I don't know if that has the same reflection on people who go there and post replies. It seems to be often enough, and gear geeks like inkista are regulars there.

So, the excuse that there is more visibility in GCC is moot. To me, more people are interested in seeing threads regarding gears and stuff and if I may assume this correctly, it's beginners who go there and read up in the hopes it helps them find answers with their own gadgets quests.

Newbies who post gear questions in GCC are just, well, unaware or unconsciously posting in the wrong section.

What I've found is that most of you, unlike me, seem to go to the "New Posts" page.. Which basically makes it irrelevant where you post if people want to find your post, but what's very relevant is how you title your thread, and what content you post...

If you're asking an interesting question and the title doesn't reflec that, you'll get very fer visitors.. If you post an interesting question and the title makes the reader go "Oh.. What's all that about then?" then you'll get far more visitors, no matter where you post..

As far as responses go.. If you ask a question that's been answered time and time again, then the most likely response is going to be "Have you forgotton how to use the search tool?" or something along those lines. If you can't be bothered to use search, then why on earth do you expect me to? That is, however, different to someone posting a question and not knowing how to phrase the search because they aren't experienced..

Asking "What do you think of Photoshop compared to Gimp?" should be a banning offence these days!!

If you Mods need any help, I'll volunteer.

Is there no hope?

DPS struggles to survive because people lose the courage to post (play Last Post now)
