ERR 05 message on an EOS Xt

A friend gave me a Canon EOS Xt. It's a heavy silver model. I put a battery in it and a memory card from my EOS Xti. His camera makes a loud snapping noise when I press the shutter and doesn't take a picture...;The screen on the back has two fields, the one on top says ERR 05. Does anyone know the reason for this code? Is the camera trashed? Thanks Jacqui:

05 means the flash is stuck. Check the microswitch: Canon Digital Photography Forums - View Single Post - Pop-up Flash is stuck. And make sure you aren't wearing a hat with a brim that keeps the pop-up from opening.
