DO the thing no one does... READ THE CAMERA MANUAL.
Don't just read it, understand it. Take the camera and follow the instructions page by page so that you what you can achieve with your equipment. make sure you understand the terms used. There are also heaps of online videos tutorials. We have a specific area for photo crit elsewhere on the forum. They have rules... read those to and I am sure you will get good feedback. |

+1 to what gturner said. It seems like you've already got an eye for photography, which is usually the hard part, now a huge part of the learning curve is to learn everything about your camera. Every single menu and setting. Now this doesn't happen over night lol, and it may be a year later and all of a sudden you're just finding out what a certain feature of your camera does "like me the other night
" But it's definitely something you need to strive for . TNH mentioned the critique section, and this may be one of the best resources for a new photographer on the entire site. When I first started out, I was taking snapshots, not making photographs. The critique section really helped me learn a lot about how to properly capture a subject/scene, the best way to expose for it, direction of lighting, best time of day to shoot. It's a great resource, and I still occasionally post over there to try to better my work. Keep in mind that people over there tend to be very blunt lol, don't take it personal. If somebody says there's something wrong with your photo, don't get defensive, because there mostly likely is something wrong with it, and they're trying to help you fix your mistakes so that you can take better photos in the future. I always add that comment in whenever I direct someone to the critique section, because I've seen a lot of people leave the site, simply because they were defensive about their pictures. All that being said, welcome to DPS and I hope we get to see your skills grow on here You're off to a good start
