Question 1st Post: Intro and Question

Hi, well here goes, my first post:

Here is an introduction to me: As of September my youngest child has moved out. Yyippe for me. My art room, which once was a guest bedroom, is going through its third metamorphsis, back into a bedroom, again. I realized that my only creative outlets would now be my camera and my computer. So while I was not cleaning out my art room I found this happy site. I have been lurking here for two months and now I think I have the nerve to start posting. On September 10, I started the 365 project. Some days are great, some days I lack total motivation. Some days I get a great shot, some days I wonder what I was thinking.

My equipment is a Nikon D2x, bought in 2004. I have a Nikorr lens; a 50mm, 18 -200mm, 105mm, and a 70 - 200mm with a doubler. My photography is a happy hobby that I have picked up and put down as life required. I'm ready to start again and now I can take it more seriously. I want to move from a ok hobbist to a good photographer.

So here is my question: What image hosting site do you use? My concern is keeping the images private as I would like total control of who sees what and when to share any of them. I think I remember reading something in one of the posts here about once a photo is on Flickr it is very hard to get it off the site.

Thanks in advance,
mduff

Welcome to DPS. I use Flickr. When I want to get a photo off the site, I just click on delete, and the picture is gone. I'm not sure if that's what you mean.

Yep, I also use Flickr.

It's quite easy to control who sees your photos. You can set photos to private and you will be the only person who sees them unless you send someone a guest pass (read about it here by clicking on "What is a Guest Pass"). Or if your friends / family / whoever you want to share your photos with have a yahoo or Flickr account, you can set your photos to Private (Friends and Family), then add the people who you want to see your photos as either a friend or family member on there.

With Flickr, there are privacy settings you can set for each picture. I do this for a lot of my 'before/after' pictures - for myself. I have the after photo (that I want people to see) public, and the "before" picture set to private, so only I can see it. You can also make things visible only to your friends (friends on Flickr).

If you have your photo set to "private" and you want to share it, when you click the "Share" button above the photo, you click "Grab the Link" and then it says that you'll need to make a guest pass. Click on the Guest Pass and that will give you a link that someone who isn't on Flickr, but you want to show your picture to, can use to see your picture.

Hope that makes sense and hope that's what you were questioning!
