Default Nikon and Sony flooded in Thailand

Could this cause a price rise on some models?

Thai floods disrupts camera productions

Like the bloody bananas, mate. When is it going down???? I'm tired of paying over $10 per kilo for freaking banans

But I hope not, with the cameras I mean. They'll get their money from their business insurance.

Perhaps some force of nature is out to wipe out all technologies, or maybe not

Yes, but when supply goes down, price goes up...until it reaches a point where it affects demand, and equilibrium is established at a new level, e.g. new customers buy other products instead.

I don't disagree with you and in fact, I do think that this is the 'natural' course that businesses take when disaster strikes. However, with the current iffy economy and canon releasing new products soon , it would be more of a loss if they raise their prices and make it even more unaffordable for their customers to buy their products already. Customers will wait if they have to for their beloved brands, but if they raise the price all of a sudden, that will sting their customers who are already on tight budgets and will then, look for alternatives.

If supplies are low, then customers will understand this and will wait for their products. But if you raise the price on them, then they will feel that they are being taken advantage.

Better to have your customers salivating for the limited gears/products than raise prices and have them look for more affordable alternatives.

We'd hope that is what's going to happen, anyway. But I think I'm being a bit too hopeful for these companies that they would take care of their customers first instead of price/profit increase opportunity. They can screw the insurance company for their losses instead

The manufacturers don't have to be involved in the price increase. Dealers may raise the price on stock that they know they and their competitors can't replace for some time.

Dealers will likely raise their prices, especially smaller ones. There *will* be shortages, especially of the D7000, and especially in December.

Glad I bought mine already. Thailand is really copping the floods - It seems almost every country has recently been hit hard with some sort of disaster, like Turkey right now just to add to the list. As if insurance isn't through the roof already

It's only Southern Thailand that's hit by floods.. The area round Bangkok is actually close to or below sea level, it was previously marsh land.. One wonders how sensible it is to have factories there.. It will be good for Northern Thailand, which is mountainous, and quite poor.. A lot of manufacturers will likely move their production up to Chiang Mai, near the international airport there..

The flood waters will go down in about 2 weeks when the rainy season comes to an end.. But then what? Nikon suffered setbacks after the Tsunami in Japan, they moved a lot of their production to Thailand, and now this.. What a really sh*t year for them (And the people effected.)
