I don't get how you could just be 'beginning to get serious' about photography when you have a website already offering your photography services. Plus you are offering your services when you are needing and asking for help with your photography at this time. How can you justify offering products and services when you know your photos and skills aren't quite up there yet and requires help from a mentor?

Also, an online mentor is fine, however, you shouldn't just ask for anyone to mentor you. You need to find one that you admire the work of and style, then you should just approach and ask if they are willing. If you just ask on a thread for anyone to mentor you, then how do you know that you will get one that will guide you properly?

I also don't think you need a mentor,, but just post regularly in the critique section here. I learnt heaps doing that and by participating myself with critiquing. You'll find that plenty of people have benefitted tremendously doing this.

I've looked at your photos on your photogallery in your website and I have to say, if you allow me, that you have focussing issues. Most of the photos are not sharp where they need to be (around eyes) and you also have lighting issues. I assume that you take photos in 'natural' light and don't use flash. If you are serious about makign this into a business, you really need to learn how to use flash and more so, need to learn where to focus, how to compose and where to find the light (even if artificial) to make the most out of your images. You do have the potential and you can see your eagerness in your photos. But you do need to learn the basics, at least.

Anyhoo, sorry for victimising you with one of my long posts. It's early in the morning and I haven't had coffee.

Good luck,

Grace

"I specialize in photographing children, couples and families. I am laid-back, easy-going and love to have fun! My goal is to make your portrait session as fun and pain-free as possible!"

Then why do you need a mentor and are only just beginning to get serious if you already "specialize" in shooting children, couples and families?

I knew I liked you for a reason Vince.....

For me it's a religious thing. If the man upstairs wanted us to put cream & sugar in the coffee, he would have made the beans white & sweet to begin with.

I like you too Scott...let's meet tomorrow for coffee at Starbucks in Soutbury, CT. If I get there first, I'll order a black, no sugar for you. You'll be driving through the night, so you'll need that coffee when you get there.

You can beam me up to Canada, Scottie
