Default That photo shoot I did & what I learnt

Ever notice how 90% of posts here start with the word "So"?

Anyway, you may recall that a couple of weeks ago I mentioned I was doing a shoot for a friend that was "lads mag" in nature - type thing - and that I'm always wondering how they get the photos as well as they do.

Well I've since done my shoot and I must say, it went very well indeed, I was actually quite surprised. I'm not sure how exactly I got some of the shots given the conditions but they seemed to have come out rather well, so I thought I would share a couple and some bits I learnt along the way.

1. Start off fully clothed (best to keep yours on), just so the model gets a feel for what's happening and then take a few things off at a time.

2. The longer your shoot the more comfortable both parties get.

3. Don't under-estimate the power of bounced light. I actually think that is the major factor in my photos coming out better than I expected. We all know bouncing light fills in the shadows etc, but when you put your model on a white sheet, it fills in ALL angles of light. truly amazing.

4. I +0.3ev my camera a lot. But after in Lightroom I actually upped it about another +1ev

5. I find that photos of woman look MUCH nicer when they relax their mouths to the point that their lips are open.

6. As always, shoot RAW.

7. The, what I have now termed, "Titanic Pose", is always a winner.(when shes getting drawn, eyes looking up, hand over head).

Nicely done Jamie. I really like the warm toned b/w's...my favs. Were you setup with off camera or on camera bouncing?

Nice photos.. Very tasteful... Not at all "lads Mag".. Much classier..

You know that tip you had about "(Best to keep yours on" and the bit where you wrote "I'm not sure how exactly I got some of the shots given the conditions"... I feel like I'm missing part of this story..

Thank you all for your kind words I've been looking at them for about 2 weeks now so, like all of my photos, I'm starting to go off them :P

A mixture of only window light, and then occasionally an SB28 flash with umbrella where the window was. I couldn't make up my mind :P

There are topless ones too, a bit more arty than "topless", but not online (yet?) due to obvious reasons :P

Jamie, are you familiar with the forum PhotoCamel - Your Friendly Photography Forum ? They have a section for glamour and erotic photos, plus many of the same categories as here on DPS

Thanks

I'd seen photo camel but never really been in. I need to work through the strobist site if I'm honest, could really do with learning how to use strobies properly/creatively
