Question Metz mecablitz flashlights anyone ....?

In the days of film photography I used to have a Metz mecablitz 45 CT-4 and I really loved it for photo shoots. But nowadays I don't seem to see a lot of people using them. Most use the hot-shoe flashlights from their camera maker. Is this a correct observation?

Does anyone of you use one of these Metz flashlights, or do you think they are overkill? Besides the enormous light you can get from one of these, I really liked the handling with the 'stick' of to the side of the camera.

Any thoughts on this?

Here is a link to the newest flashgun they make:

You don't see many potato masher units like that any more (Sunpak made one too). I think the biggest reason is the advance in electronics. you can get as much power out of a shoe mount flash...and with the bounce & swivel there is less demand for moving the camera off axis and onto a bracket. I still have and use a bracket when the situation calls for it, but it is more the exception than the go-to set up.
