Get down to the animals eye height, or even below it and try to get their personality.. An up close and personal photo of an animal doing something that says "I'm energetic, I'm sleepy, I'm shy, I'm curious" or whatever will speak far more to an observer than looking down at yet another animal in a basket with a bow.

This is my dog.. Says a lot about him (He's always sleeping) A photo looking down on him from above wouldn't have given you the same point of view, and would have separated you from him.. Now you're up close and in his world.

Let sleeping dogs lie 2

We're moving into a new house in 3 weeks. After we're settled we'll be adopting a greyhound. We have friends who are very involved in the local greyhound adoption association here. We visit their dogs often. Greyhounds make wonderful pets. Stay tuned for lots of pictures!

Jon,

Thanks for the feedback Definitely good advice on getting down to their level. That's what I try to do when I photograph my niece. Also, great shot of your dog. It definitely shows his personality.

rosserx,
Good luck on the move and on the adoption. Look forward to seeing the pics!

Anybody else who wants to post either their own pet's photos, or pet adoption photos, feel free to. I've been enjoying looking at them, and they've given me some pretty good ideas

Lol, thanks Luna. I actually went out today and bought a box of dog treats along with a squeaky toy as some people suggested Now that I have a little more time before the shoot, I'll have to get something to cater to the cats needs as well lol. I'm thinking catnip, a mouse that goes in circles, with a long exposure to get a big long circular cat ghost trail. I'm just kidding lol, but now that I think about it, I bet that'd look pretty interesting

Nice shot btw. I really like how you captured the soft warm light off his/her head
