Default Brand New Camera with Unsealed Box. New Trend?

I recently received my "new" Nikon D7000 from Best Buy. The brown packaging box was properly sealed and in good shape. However the D7000 retail packaging was not sealed. The LCD cover had the plastic on and when I charged the battery and switched on the camera, it asked me to select the language as well as set the date & time. I am guessing this is a brand new camera because there are no scratches at all.

I did not check the shutter count so will do that tonight.

Is this a trend or something by the manufacturers because I found similar questions for Canon as well?

Any one experienced this?

I'm pretty sure when I bought my 5D Mark II it was not sealed. It had a sticker from Best Buy on it that you had to cut (If this sticker is cut there is a X% restocking fee). I believe my XTI was the same way. They were never shrink wrapped or anything like that and I don't recall ever having to cut tape.

None of my boxes have been sealed, and none of the packaging has ever been sealed in any way either

I was expecting that sticker to be there but it wasn't. That's what I meant by sealed. My bad.

When I bought my 60d (from a locally owned shop, not a big box store), the shopkeep opened it up, made sure all the parts were there, then boxed it back up and put it in a shopping bag. I don't remember any shrink wrap.

Looks like now manufactures are not even putting the sticker on the opening

The sticker on my box was actually from Best Buy not the manufacture. It was a sticker stating that if this seal is broken there is a %15 restocking fee. When I bought my XTI online there was no such sticker.

Aha!! Looks like Best Buy has stopped putting their own stickers too.. confusing for the customer to figure out if the camera is absolutely new.

Interesting!! I still have the original packaging of mine and there are no stickers, no tape, nothing. I bought my camera at London Drugs (husband did) and they open every camera to check the contents. I wonder if thats why there are no security stickers? I of course, assumed it was "new". Now, having been shooting for 9 months, no way to know if the shutter had been clicked before me.

I checked the shutter and it seems to be new since the file counter started at 1
