Unhappy Can someone Help Me

I had a Canon Rebel 450d that recently died, I had trouble with it from day one... But I am looking into getting a Nikon d90, with all the newer models out I am not sure what to get I don't need the video. I have heard alot of good things about the d90 but it came out at about the same time as my Canon and they informed me that they could not fix mine due to the age of the camera. I guess my question is should I still buy a d90 even tho it has been out since 08?

The D90 is a very nice camera...but it is discontinued. Maybe there are some new bodies somewhere but otherwise you are looking at a used one... It was replaced by the excellent d7000.

btw, welcome!

If you have lenses, flashes and other accessories for Canon and like the feel of it than I'd suggest sticking to Canon. If you don't mind switching to a new system than D7000 is better than D90 because it is newer technology. If you are wanting to upgrade to D300s and above, I suggest waiting till December at least because apparently Canon as well as Nikon are coming up with newer models in that range.

Why don't you upgrade to the Rebel 600D? It's a nice camera. Sticking with Canon will certainly make it cheaper for you, you can just buy the body.

The D90 is getting a bit long in the tooth. The D300s is not due for renewal before the D700 and D3, the D7000 is a nice camera, but it's a step up on the scale, eqivalent of the 60D or 7D.. If you're going to spend that kinda money, why not go for one of those two?

Just a thought, but if you're in the US, and drinking from the Canon well again doesn't feel poisoned to you, you could trade in the busted 450D via the Canon Loyalty Program, and get a substantial discount on a refurbished dSLR body. It'll only carry a 90-day warranty, so if again you have trouble from day one, I'd send it back to Canon Service ASAP and get it fixed under warranty. But the prices are probably lower than anything else you'll find new. I've had great luck with them, and some folks claim they have BETTER luck with Canon refubs than with new models, because each unit has been inspected by Canon Service as working before it goes out.

I've had great luck with the CLP and both of my bodies (50D, 5D Mark II) were obtained this way, and both have worked out great for me. Then again, I also had good luck with my 350D.

Why change systems? Or is it that you haven't invested much money in Canon so far to stay the course?

As others said, the Nikon D90 is "old" technology, & I wouldn't recommend it even if you could locate one. Try one of the newer Nikons in a store that sells cameras to get a feel for a newer dSLR before making your final decision. It could be that you end up dumping Canon, but you might find that you are used to the way it works & stick with it.
