The most amazing part is that even at 200+ MPH, the drivers that stayed on the ground were generally ok. The safety advances they've made in the last few years is really impressive, but that was the ugliest racing crash I've seen in a long time.

Quote from the movie Le Mans:

Lisa Belgetti: When people risk their lives, shouldn't it be for something very important?
Michael Delaney: Well, it better be.
Lisa Belgetti: But what is so important about driving faster than anyone else?
Michael Delaney: Lotta people go through life doing things badly. Racing's important to men who do it well. When you're racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting.

A truer statement has never been made. Any pro who races knows the risks on the track. And for them the risk is probably worth it.

It is a shame he was so young and with two babies. These guys and gals are heroic.

I realize now, that seeing that accident on TV really affected me. I still suffer PTSD from my own accident.
