Unhappy Damnit dropped it..

Mrs Swiss is away for the weekend so I've been given free reign of the house and stuff.. So what do I do? Bigparty? Loadsa mates? Nah... I've been out hiking with my dog.

I should have taken the start of the day as a warning when I dropped something heavy on my toe.. But I'm a big boy and chose to limp out of the house anyway (It still bloody hurts )

Anyway, whilst walking down the road with my camera attached to my Black Rapid, my shoulder goes light and I head a clunk.. I look down and see my pride and joy on the floor.. The D ring under the tripod mount had given way, and my camera had dropped onto the tarmac from about waist height.. No big deal thinks I.. It's not very far.. I pick it up, and it looks like the tripod mount had taken most of the force, along with the lens shade, a couple of scratchs, that's all.. I turn it on and take a test shot.. No problem.. Then I go to turn the zoom ring... Problem.. It takes a lot of force to budge it.. It does work, but takes an unhealthy amount of strength..

Damnit.. This is my 24-70 2.8.. My favourite (and second most expensive) lens. Sh*t. There don't appear to be any dents in the zoom ring, I'm guessing a seal has come loose or something.. Everything else works fine, aperture works, AF works, MF works, just the damn zoom ring.. Looks like I'm going to have to contact Nikon on Monday and see about a repair. Grrrr.

On the plus side, I managed to get a photo of a wild falcon today

Ok, I know some of you lot have had similar problems,

And this is why I dont trust the BlackRapid straps mounting to the tripod socket.

At least, all is not lost.
The lens still work and you got a pretty nice pic.
I never had any problems with my Black Rapid. Never trust that flimsy ring on the tripod plate though.

YAHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Just answered my own question..

The lens hood had got jammed due to the fall.. I just managed to get it off, and the zoom ring is now working fine..

So all I need now is a lens hood.. HB-40===>£6.90 on eBay.

Yahoo...

I dunno...
Somehow "having my ring jammed" has a different meaning...

Jon, I seem to remember that you lost a large & expensive lens just recently, now this. Are you sure you should be allowed out on your own anymore?

Maybe BlackRapid owners should consider sending their Fasten-Rs to this place.

If I'm keeping score correctly, that's twice you've gotten insanely lucky this week. Do they sell lottery tickets there? I wouldn't normally recommend this, but I'm thinking it would be a good time to put the cameras the hell away and go play lotto or something....
