Default What do you think.. Mouse or Tablet??

I was buying a new laptop mouse the other day, my regular sized mouse is ?? uncomfortable when edit my photos, well i saw a Bamboo Tablet while shopping, the sales clerk says she LOVES hers she's into arts & crafts.. and scrap booking, she says they sell really good to photographers for editting, so now she's peeked my interest, but when i search youtube for demo's they mostly talk about the product and don't give a informative review and demo it. Anyone out there have a tablet and would like to give me your oppinion on it.. Thanks.

I have a Bamboo tablet, although I don't use it all that often, and most definitely not as a mouse replacement. I've grown too accustomed to having left, middle, and right-click capabilities, and the Bamboo stylus isn't quite up to that.

The pressure-sensitivity is good for painting programs like Photoshop, where the brush pressure can alter the size and/or opacity of a brush. It makes layer masking and exposure blending easier. So, if that's a big part of your photo editing process, it might make sense to add one.

If you can find someone locally who has one and would let you borrow it for a little while, I'd suggest doing that before buying one. It's not the type of thing you can evaluate playing with one for a couple minutes in a store. You really have to use it seriously for a while to get used to it and see if it will work for your needs.

How much do you want to spend? I use this: Amazon.com: Wacom Cintiq 12WX 12-Inch Pen Display: Electronics

About $1,000.00 USD

I primarily use it for illustration with Sketchbook pro. But, it kicks a** as an editor with Photoshop! It is a monitor so you work "directly" on your image.

I had a Wacom Intuos3 (back when that was the latest model). After a year I sold it on ebay. The novelty wore off and was taking up desk space. What I can recommend mouse wise is a Logitech Performance MX. Its super responsive, has 5 programable buttons and feels great in the hand. I love this mouse!

I have a bamboo tablet also. Just got it a few months ago, but I like the pen for editing photos, much better control than just a mouse for making selections, layer masks, local adjustments etc.
For things like drawing, painting, and adding handwriting to documents, I can't get that level of control with a mouse. If I were more into drawing or painting, I might have got one of the larger ones to allow for longer strokes; but the small one works well enough for me.
Its also a great entry into the feel of using a tablet. I used the tablet (mostly) exclusively for the first few days to get the feel of it. I still use my mouse, but enjoy the option of being able to use a tablet when I want or need the control.

Thanks for the responses, the one i saw was $200.00 Cdn. (the BOX was BIGGER than my laptop i think it's around 15inchs ??not sure of the sizes tablets come it) I like the idea of the pen for edits,(just the fact that i can switch from mouse to pen for certain things is even appealing) i think i might give it a try, if i'm not crazy about it maybe my daugther will find it cool and use it and if not think i'll just put it on our local version of "craig's list" to recoup some of my $$. Thanks so much everyone (*hahaha, i should check the site for someone selling theirs)

I started with a Graphire4 for my 15.4" laptop that I absolutely loved. It came with both the stylus and mouse, but I found myself using the stylus way more often than the mouse or my laptop's track pad. When I got a desktop computer I found that my little Graphire was too small for me to comfortably work with on the larger screen. By that time the Graphires were discontinued so I got a Bamboo pen and touch. I really like it, but not as much as the Graphire. Still, I would definitely recommend a tablet. The stylus makes editing and precision work so much easier.

I use my Wacom Intous4 tablet extensively. Mostly for digital art and painting but I also use it to cull our weddings and for many of the functions mentioned by previous posters.

I have a pen&touch. Personly I still use the mouse for almost everything. But for masking/selections, nothing beats having a tablet.

Having touch is a bonus, when I'm showing someone pics they can swipe through them iPhone style. Sexy time
