I'm getting impatient!
I've even considered just giving up and buying a used D3x or another D3... But there are so many technological advances being made I'm afraid that would be a mistake; if I can just hold out...... I want a sensor made with quantum dots!

If it's as good as they claim, I can see a small revolution in photography and, especially, astrophotography where exposure can easily last a few hours.

One wonders whether you wouldn't be better off with the D800 and optional Battery Pack
http://nikonrumors.com/2011/10/09/ni...cs-recap.aspx/ Quantum Dot technology sounds really cool.. Either you'll get a huge amount of extra pixels on your sensor, or you're going to get a significant change in ISO power.. With ISO's available up to several million and/or VERY VERY fast shuttter speeds.. From what I read of this, you're getting perhaps 1 stop from the technology, and several more stops from the fact that you no longer have opaque electronics in front of the sensor. This is an interesting development. I wonder how long before it finds its way into consumer technology, I hope it doesn't just go into mobile phones, because the glass in my iPhone is the thing that prevents DSLR quality photos, not just the sensor.

Grab a D3s and a D3x: Theres no need for more resolution than that.

Really, even the D3x is beyond what I want to spend.

I don't want or need 36mp on a sensor of current design...... I even question the 24MP of the D3x for what I do mostly.

Then just get the D3s: I have no need for anything beyond 12MP, and if I ever do, I stitch. It used to be a big to-do to stitch: its not anymore, so have at it. The big issue for me is lenses: very few can resolve 24mp, let alone 36. Instead, however, I can get similar resolution from a handful of carefully placed shots stitched together.

I'm considering it......
A used D3 and keep the D7000 for when I need the added reach. (But I really don't "like" that camera).
