Default My 3 year-old photographer

Hello everyone!

It so happens that my just recently turned three-year old toddler loves taking photos. Unfortunately, we don't have a point and shoot for her to play with, so as a keen mother who likes to encourage her kid with whatever takes her fancy, I let her use my Canon 30D.

Thank goodness to grandpa, she will be getting her own Nikon Coolpix in a few weeks.

Of course, I did teach her how to hold the camera before I let her go on her own around the house taking photos of whatever catches her eyes. She's been doing this for two months. She's now at a point when she tells me to pop the flash on when it's a little too dark to take photos!

You should see the look on people's faces in cars that pass us by when they see her taking photos at the back in her baby chair when we drive out on the road.....

Anyhoo, here is she is with the camera and some of her photos. I've created a flickr account for her so that she can see her journey as the young photographer -- I hope she appreciates it when she is older.

So what about you? Do your children take photos? Perhaps you can share them here, too!

*Notes about the photos below: I edited them, of course, except for crop. I wanted to show her perspective/how she views the world through those lenses so I thought I would not crop any of her photos. Taken with Canon 30D, auto mode, Canon 50mm f/2.5 macro

Mama's bag and her triangle jacket

You can see the rest of her photos here - Flickr: augustine.the.photographer's Photostream

Watch out folks, she may yet take jobs away from you ten years from now.........!

Awwwww thanks you guys

You know what I find interesting? It's seeing what she sees from such low perspective. I love the angles of the shots when she is shooting up - like the sunflowers on the table and stuff, I actually am learning new perspective from seeing her photos.

She actually has better photos from this month but alas, my imac died yesterday (RIP my imac 2006 - 2011) along with unsaved photos from this month.

Anyhoo, people think I'm crazy letting a toddler walk around the house unsupervised with an expensive camera, but hell, I'm just so proud of her. I want to be able to support her with whatever she wants to do with life.

She has a nice eye already! Keep encouraging her. Pretty soon she'll have a better set up than you (if she can bribe Grandpa that is).

Cute pic of your daughter holding the camera. She looks comfortable & confident! So good job mom! Love her pics too...especially the black & white one of your bag & jacket.

It's why you always seem me screaming (nicely) at folks to change the friggin' perspective.. changes everything. Makes your stuff automatically more interesting (in my humble opinion).

Damn shame a child has to teach us that.. but I forgive you!

Ahh.. What a brilliant thing.. I love seeing the photos taken by children.. They're so subject oriented and not held back by composition worries, you can see what they're really interested in.. It's really refreshing.
