Yesterday afternoon I was standing in my garden making some last minute preparations for my husband's 50th birthday when I looked across the street to see my neighbour looking really angry and stressed. Her dogs were barking like mad. She got in her car and drove off but I didn't really make much of it at the time as I was talking on my mobile.
Later on she knocked on my door and said that she noticed I was in my garden and did I see anyone take her purse out of her car as she was on her way out to return a pair of shoes and left her purse on the drivers seat and briefly went into the house to pick up her shoes but when she returned the purse was gone along with £250 .I didn't see anyone! It's such a quiet street. I can only assume that someone was watching her from a distance and quickly grabbed the purse. Poor lady! I am sorry but you don't expect this sort of thing to happen in our street. There are some scumbags out there.

There are scumbags everywhere. It's an epidemic. Judges here give offenders the proverbial "slap on the wrist" and we're left to wonder what the hell they think they're doing. The politician who decides to run on a platform of doing something about the present and future scum in this country will get my vote regardless of whatever else he/she or it stands for.
Well not really - and I won't vote for an it

oooh I hate that. I've always told my staff that crime has no address so always always be on the look out. You just never know when or where. Feel bad for your neighbor

That's a pretty... umm, unlikely (for want of a better word) scenario IMO. I bet she just left it somewhere :P Unless she parks her car on the road, had the window down and someone was walking past.
Your husband's 50th you say? I've always envisaged you as a late 20's woman :P

What I don't get is that she parks the car off the road so you wouldn't necessarily see the purse as you walk past. It would have to have been someone just grabbing the chance iykwim.
I was listening to my local radio station the other night about how someone got into a house by making a hook out of a car aeriel and pushed it through the cat flap to grab a set of house keys that were laying on a table. whoever did it then let themselves in and took the lady's handbag. Apparently between the hours of 11pm and 7am. You do hear about theives poking sticks through cat flaps but I always thought it was a bit of an urban myth but in this case it looks like the police are taking things seriously. My husband is always on my case about leaving valuables ie purses away from windows or anywhere visible.

Yeah my mrs never locks doors or the car. I have to check the house every night when I go to bed to make sure its locked and the curtains drawn.
But yeah, that's what I mean, if it's off the road someone would have had to know that the purse was on the seat before going over to it, you don't just walk up someones drive on the off chance there's a bag on the seat and the cars open - especially when they're coming back in like 30 seconds :P

My car is parked out the front of my house and is never locked. I do lock it when parked in town though. Don't lock my back door at all during the day, even when I'm out - only lock the house up at night before bed.I used to live in a small country town and one night when my husband was on nightshift I hadn't checked the front door properly and it blew open in the windy night. Hubby came home to find the front door, facing the street, wide open, us all still sound asleep.
