Default Legit?

I'm in the market for Lightroom, so I did a little shopping and found This site offering it to students for $59. Seems like a great deal, but I hear the phrase "if it seems to good to be true, it probably is" a lot around here. If a site is offering a product for about half of what it goes for on adobe's site, is it TOO good to be true?

EDIT: It seems that it's for anyone and not restricted to students. No idea where I got that from. That worries me even more because now it's on their site for about 80% less than on Adobe.com...

FWIW, Adobe sent me an offer to buy it for $99 a while after I bought PS-Elements. It's still *close* to "too good to be true", though, and the whole OEM bit would make me slightly nervous. I know there was a deal very recently where you could pick up LR for $150, so if you're nervous about this (with good reason, I guess), you might want to wait a bit for a deal like that to come around again.

This is OEM software.
That means it's for install on computers by system builders and not general public. So it's at your own risk unless you built your own computer.
That also mean (generally) no upgrades and limited updates/support as those are supposed to be provided by...the system builders, not the software company.
Quite frankly, considering the price of Lightroom and the fact that it does go on sale from time to time, I wouldn't suggest that route.

I'm a student so I can get it for $100 any time, just looking to see if it can go lower.

Thanks, I had no idea what OEM was. I saw another site or two (same price, this one just seemed the most "proper")

Thanks, I was trying to find a way to save some money- Its usually just a quick google search away. But I guess a couple bucks isn't worth it to risk it. Just gonna go through Adobe.

Yeah,...about the only time an OEM will work like it's supposed to is if you already have a product key. After my OS crashed on my laptop, I got an OEM disk for Win7 from a Mom & Pop computer store here thats reputable. It works gloriously, but the product key is on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop. When asked for it in download, all I had to do was put it in.

FYI- Adobe does offer discounts to students and teachers. But you have to have proof of being an active student at a college. Because generally, thats the only time you'd need it.

EDIT: Save up to 80% on Adobe products

To qualify:
Students must:

Attend an accredited primary or secondary school, university, or college as defined below.
Be enrolled full- or part-time and have a valid student ID
Teachers and staff: For personal use by teachers, administrators, and school staff on their personally owned computers.

Oooh. Gets thats a no go.
It's for HS students so I should be good.

new thought: Think I could us it for a price match guarentee at Futureshop/best buy (Some 85% off)
P.s. in case you haven't noticed, I'm pretty damn frugal!

That won't work either as OEM and students versions are not sold there. Just regular and upgrades.
