LoL.. I got that for Xmas last year.. You're right, it's a nice book.
I found in the local second hand shop a copy of "The Earth seen from the Air" which has some great pictures. My dad wrote one of these books with his business partner, called "Ballooning over Thailand" but so far it's only been published in Thailand. Fabulous pictures though.

Why photographs work - George Barr
Full Moon - Michael Light Are two of my favorites. I quite like lenswork magazine for coffee tables - other than that I wouldn't want to treat the pages poorly

I have one by Barbara Kingsolver (text) and Annie Griffiths Belt (photos). The photos are combination digital and hand-tinted IR film, and while they aren't really my style they are interesting to look at. I'm much more a photo-realist than a pictorialist, but I digress.
Kingsolver gets a bit preachy about how Man destroys Nature and the only Nature worth having is one that does not have any trace of human presence at all--so I haven't made it through all her diatribes, and the photos do have a sameness to them, as the amazon reviews attest. My parents got me that book for a graduation gift 6 years ago, and I still haven't looked at every page. It's the only coffee-table book I have, and I'm not likely to get more any time soon. The only coffee table I have has been re-purposed to kids' art table, and I'm not about to put a $40 book where the paint, crayons, and colored pencils get used by 4 year olds. |
