Question Backup where to? Online HD, other ? HMMM

This has been asked before i bet..

Just wondering where is the best place or cost effective to backup images..

I have a D5000 and shot both .jpg and .nef

I see that Picasa you can upload .nef but mine don't seem to work.. but the cost is OUCH $250 for a 1 TB a year

i see that Flickr you can upload as well for about $30 a year but not sure if you can backup .nef..

What are others doing out here

I got a 2 TB WD Elements external drive.....89.99@ Bestbuy. I was sitting here one day and realized i had over 11 thousand pics that have never been backed up. I'd uploaded a few to flickr and 500px but nothing compared to what would have been down the drain had my Mac decided to take a plunge. Its great, it sits there and does its thing backing up everything (time machine) and it is seamless. No issues at all.. just plugged it in and that was that.

A friend of mine is using adrive.com for digital backups. I just use multiple drives in my home.
Others?

For me the only way to do it is on (minimum) duplicated external drives.
I would never use an on-line storage facility for "proper" backups.
Companies go bust, change terms, increase costs, etc etc

After losing about 100,000 negatives in a fire about 20 years ago then I am a real belt, braces and a bit of string for extra security sort of guy.

I won't go through the whole of my procedures but suffice to say there is never less than 3 copies of a file available on separate drives for the first year after being taken.

All my shots are on mirrored 2TB HHDs on one of my webservers. Every two weeks or so, every computer in the house (servers, workstations, my dad's business machines) plus those disks are backed up to three 3TB disks which go in a fireproof safe.

I keep RAW copys of my 100-150 best shots on my website (which is hosted offsite)

just wondering if it would be cheeper to buy a NAS - and have it at my parents house 4000km away and just back up to that drive..

I think you can get like 3TB for like $200 bucks.. and then use like Memeo and just to a backup to the FTP

Just wondering if this is the way to go..

As dont' think both places will get robbed or fire at the same time..

any comments on this on?

If so what NAS are good to get and stay away from would like one that plugs right in to the network.. and has good security..

I hope you're keeping all your raw files? Not converting to JPEG then deleting them...
