My beautiful daughter Amber turns 16 on Tuesday & she had her party on Saturday night, here at home. Ten friends - nine girls and one boy, a friend since primary school. What a lovely bunch of young people, I was impressed by what a great bunch of friends that she has. A very loud group too, I had moral support in the form of two friends and a couple of bottles of wine
. The kids had no alcohol, my daughter said no - didn't see the need to be drinking alcohol so it was lemonade & OJ for all. Here she is, the birthday girl. ![]() A friend's mother had promised to make her a birthday cake but with a badly broken leg a month ago had to resort to a cake maker. The instructions were purple & choclate. Yum! ![]() Yeah, and there's more than 16 candles on that cake, Amber got carried away when she put them on. She has promised me that her next big party won't be til she's 21!

What a beautiful daughter you have!
I love the cake too. That looks so yummy. One of my neighbours daughter turned 16 last weekend and the mum said to me with a nod and a wink "I'll be going through this one day".My daugher found a watch outside my house. Its very pretty just like a sweet 16 would wear but don't know who it belongs too (asked my neighbour) so we took it down the the police station.

Rachel, John & Tito,
Thank you She is a lovely girl and I am so proud of her. She was absolutely horrible last year, typical teenage girl thing, and we had a very unpleasant year in 2010. This year is a different story, we are very close now and I am constantly impressed with her mature attitude to life.

![]() The drinking age is 16 with a parent/guardian or 18 in pubs/bars. They lowered it a few years ago but apparently are looking at raising it again. Amber is allowed the occasional wine at home with dinner but generally says no - doesn't like the taste. Doesn't like beer or other drinks either. I got the impression that none of her friends really drank either. If I'd have been providing alcohol I would've let the parents know first.

Such a pretty girl and lovely cake too!
Like Luke, I was wondering about the drinking age there! I'm sooooooo glad we don't live there as somehow I don't see my daughter passing up on the option of a little bubbly for her sweet 16 ![]() I do somewhat know how you feel right now though. We just survived our first Homecoming Dance a couple weekends ago! |

Thanks Lisa & Michelle.
Michelle - I was not impressed a few years back when they lowered the drinking age, there was enough underage drinking going on as it was, now those underage drinkers just got 2 years younger. Will be happy if they raise the drinking age again but it'll probably be half-assed like when they raised the driving age by just one year. What age is Homecoming Dance - is it like a Senior Ball?
