Default Layer Masking

Hello everyone. Hoping one of you fine folks may have found a comprehensive tutorial on layer masking.

I've seen a few, but I'm hoping DPS has a recommendation.

Thanks in advance!

wingflapp.

What version of Photoshop are you using (I'm assuming you meant Photoshop)?

No need to assume Photoshop - any serious image editing software will include layers in some shape or form.

So, what image editing program (and version thereof) are you using? Also, have you a particular target in mind or is "layer masking" just a term you've heard that you would like to read up on? I think it is an essential skill but if you have a particular focus, that might help someone suggest an ideal tutorial.

That's why I asked.

Here's a couple to start. You'll have to sign up with an email address and create a password, then they'll notify you of new articles each week and usually a dvd they want to sell.

Just go to YouTube and search on Layer Masking Photoshop. There you will find oodles of videos to show you how. Some will be good and some will suck.... but they're free and you can watch as many times as you need without opening your wallet

Thanks for the good information. I had a nice tiff to watch in this thread, so that was a bonus, too.

Yes, I should have specified. I'm using PS CS5. Now, I did do the Google thing, saw some good videos. Learned some stuff about layering. But, most of my learning has been from here on DPS. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any DPS tutorials on the subject. I'm sure there out there, but buried.

I love this place, and I love what people have to say here, and there always seems to be one comprehensive post somewhere on almost any given subject. Was hoping there was a DPS sanctioned tutorial on layers and masking.

So thanks for all the tips, and any additional info would certainly be welcome.

Thanks Wulf. Nothing particular, sir.... just general in's and out's on the subject. I'm using photoshop CS5. Basically.... I've recently learned that it's an essential skill, as you've said, but it's a skill that I don't have. So, I just need to get familiar and comfortable with it.

Thanks for reading.

I don't have funds for a Porsche...

Please don't discus techniques for ripping people off on DPS

Thanks

I see Sime was on this about the same time I was. My response was to edit the thread and remove all the posts around how one might get free copies of tutorials that are being offered for sale.

Same message though - if you can't afford information someone is selling, move on and look somewhere else.
