Default While we're whining...

I thought I'd join in with the trend. I think I've dived down in to that trough on the graph when you realise all your photos suck the big kumera.
I really wish I had not discovered 500px. It is too depressing for words. I used to think that maybe I had some shots that were worthy, but now I know not.
I'm stuck shooting with my nifty-fifty because my zoom is slowly dying and I don't really have the inclination to get it fixed. I used to love the 50mm, but now it's limitations are becoming depressing.
Is it time for a new toy?
This looks rather delicious, but I am not sure I can convince hubby that it's a good investment.

you're not alone I was just saying the same thing in the 500pix thread, after seeing that I think I'd be better suited to raising chickens or something!

Whats a big kumera?? I'd be willing to bet that mine suck more than yours!

The 35/1.8 has better IQ, and it's kinder on your wallet.

A kumara is a root vegetable, like a sweet potato. Very tasty when roasted. Or made in to chips, bro!

Meh, I already have chickens. Perhaps I'll just go look after them.

ooo..... but how can it be better if it doesn't cost big dollars.

That's what it's all about, isn't it. The more you spend, the better your fot-ee-grafs...

I got frustrated/depressed last weekend when I went to a children's party and started shooting. Wasn't getting in to it and it didn't help that I was not feeling well at all. I still too photos even though I knew they were going to suck big time. Got home, loaded them on puter. And yup, sure enough, they sucked. Of course, I was only going to reflect the suckiness all against me, blah blah blah.

And then the 500px doesn't help. Although it's kinda cool that there's some likes on my photos. I didn't even think I would get any.

But then I gave myself a little buttkick and thought well, time to do some more learning and went to youtube. I had not done that before, go to youtube and look at the gazillion photography videos on there. I can't believe how much stuff is there!!! Three hours into it, I had learnt to use my flash against ambient light, understand a little bit more about shutter priority and shutter speed. I have put what I learnt to practice yesterday and now i'm elated and so excited.

The lesson I have learnt here is that there will be a point when our work/craft/hobby/photos becomes stagnant, we get down on ourselves thinking we need to be better. But then that's the point ----- we can and need to get better. We have to keep growing. Looking at the 500px photos actually inspire me now and makes me desire for more out of my work.

And talk about wanting more gears.....yeah hehe. Looking at more strobe kit stuff now. Thank god they're nowhere near as expensive as lenses and such!

I started a 500px account but have yet to add any photos to it for fear of immense suckage, LOL.

I love my 50mm f/1.8 too and then I see photos my friends have taken with the 85L, the 135L, and the 70-200L. Then, I want to go take a job as a speed bump on a busy road.

But then....I deliver an order to a client. He/she opens up all the pretty packaging, sees the large images previously only seen as measly 4x6 proofs (and they loved those), throws his/her arms around me and starts to cry, saying they were so happy they hired me. Sometimes I help them decide where in their house to display them. Sometimes I go back to their houses and see my work on their walls, and they and their kids hug me, because I've gone from "photographer lady" to "friend".

Exit speedbump job idea and urge to upload pictures to 500px.

I'm very overtired and working on editing a few sessions in between my new office job and the usual stay at home mom thing (I guess you can say I'm working 3 jobs now?) so forgive me if I'm waxing a bit poetic.

Light is another thing I need. To both purchase and master. Maybe I should head down that road before I fork out thousands on glass. Good to know that the duldrums can be gotten over.
