Default Which Camer Choice

I was once or maybe twice that it is wise to ask for advice if you don't know something. I want to up grade and this is the choice. I can buy a new Canon 40D camera body only for $800 or a used Canon 50D anywhere from $574- $610. The 40D is a 10 megpix and the 50D is a 15 megpix. Which Camera should I get?

Thanks to all that help

Charlie

Unless you're printing off photos to put on a motorway billboard, or you're cropping excessively - nope. In fact the more pixels you cram into the same space the higher the risk of "overspill" resulting in image degredation.

On don't forget, 15mp will take up more storage space than 10mp. Granted HDD's are cheap, but it's still a pain in the ass when you have to buy 2 at a time (RAID) and then move photos around.

Sorry. Hard drives are cheap. And the high iso noise performance between the two is pretty much equivalent, if you're looking at the overall image, and not at the pixels at 100% crop. Resolution still matters, even at smaller sizes. You can always throw data away--getting more is not always possible. Higher resolution still matters if you crop.

Getting a newer camera with more features for less money seems like a no-brainer to me. Go for the 50D. Having the autofocus micro-adjust feature can save you a lot of time/money in terms of getting lenses calibrated by Canon Service.

My bad I missed the cost bit. Yeah, if it's cheaper and higher spec it would be a no-brainer :P
