Default Thread Jacking, and why you shouldnt do it.

Ok, I've noticed thread jacking happening quite a lot here lately, so I thought I'd post a notice about it.

DEFINITION: Thread Jack.

threadjack (thred-jak) verb

Often shortened to just 'tj', to Threadjack is to hijack someone else's thread to post something of your own.

Why its rude.

Have you ever asked a question to someone, only to have another overhear and butt into the conversation with questions of their own thus causing the person with the answer to ignore the question you originally posed? If you have, then you understand how rude this behavior is, and how you feel about it.

Questions posed in a forum thread are no different than questions posed in person. Each poster deserves the full attention of their readers. If you have a similar question, it would be best if you either wait and see how the original question is answered, or create a separate thread with the details that pertain to your own question.

There are other reasons that you would want to start your own thread, even if being rude is no deterrent.

People who may have read the other person's post already may have the answer to your specific question, but wouldn't ever read your plea for help as they had already read the original posters question and concluded that they couldn't help. Never having had the opportunity to read your particular question, you will be without an answer.

People never respond well to thread jackers. If you insist on asking a question over top of anothers question, people who check in on the original post will likely be annoyed and either give you a short and incomplete answer, or ignore you all together. If you become known for being a rude poster, people may ignore your future posts as well which will cause your experience on the forum to be less than pleasant.

Please keep Internet etiquette on these forums alive and well. Please don't thread jack.

So, how about that Iowa State football team? 3-0 for the first time in a long time and this year's in-state rivalry game winner vs. the U of Iowa.

Been to Iowa a few times but Colorado is so much better. The weather, the mountains, the lack of oxygen at altitude. I've never gotten altitude sickness though (knocks on wood, throws some salt over his shoulder and rubs his lucky rabbit's foot).

Haha, you guys are assholes. (I just say that cause you beat me to it)

Tzetzin, you had to expect it though. But yeah, I agree it's pretty annoying. I usually just ignore them and they get the hint pretty quickly.

I got altitude sickness from someone's arrogant comment earlier. Absolutely barf.

I spent most of my childhood running around mountains up and down, up and down, and yeah, thank goodness I didn't get altitude sickness, either.

By the way, does anyone know the lyrics to Stairway to Heaven, unabridged version, that they can post here?

There’s a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she’s buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there, she knows if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.

Ooh, ooh, and she’s buying a stairway to heaven.

There’s a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there is a songbird who sings:
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.

Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.

Theres a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who standing looking.

Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, really makes me wonder.

And it’s whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.

If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow,
Don’t be alarmed now,
Its just a spring clean for the May queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by but in the long run
Theres still time to change the road you’re on.

And it makes me wonder.
Ooooooh…

Your head is humming and it won’t go,
In case you don’t know:
The pipers calling you to join him.

Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow,
And did you know:
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.

And as we wind on down the road,
Our shadows taller than our soul,
There walks a lady we all know.
Who shines white light and wants to show…
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard the tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all, yeah, to be a rock and not to roll.

And she’s buying a stairway… to heaven....

Speaking of things blowing, my GE dishwasher picked today to stop draining, so I've got a dishwasher full of swamp water and my house smells like a$$. Between that and the GE range that's got one burner out, I ought to be out just about the price of a Canon 70-200 f/4.0 L lens.

I'd vote to leave the dishwasher and stove in a state of disrepair, and spend the money on the lens. Gotta keep your priorities straight.
