Default Importing RAW photos

I'm fairly new to this importing RAW stuff since my film really didn't give me many options when I opened it in photoshop.

I have a question about white balance. when I open my photos in bridge, under white balance, it says as "as shot" as one of the options. I always set my white balance to cloudy unless im somewhere that is not daylight calibrated lighting. So why, when i switch to cloudy in camera raw, does it change the way it looks from my "as shot" setting?

...because Adobe's idea of a cloudy setting and Nikon's are different?

And besides, just leave it set to "As Shot", then use the color picker on something that should be light gray in the image. It will balance auto from there. You may have to adjust by hand a little, but it will get you more into the ballpark.

Now as to you always leaving it on cloudy in the camera... Do you live in Seattle or something?

I like my images to look warm and cloudy makes colors look warmer. All the photos i posted today were cloudy white balace. Shade also warms your colors, but for me it is a little too warm.

Thanks for the tips

I leave my Nikon set on cloudy for most outdoor shots and alter in Camera Raw if the need arises. It works well and I certainly prefer it for cloudless shots.
