Default White balance at high ISO Issue

I noticed the other day when shootig at ISO 4000 and above that the auto white balance did not work very well. My pictures all seemed to have a yellow tint. Not a big deal as I shoot raw and was able to correctly very easily, but wondering why this happens.

Where were you shooting? What sort of lighting conditions?

Got an example?

I've noticed this in several places when shooting higher than ISO 4000 indoors on my Nikon D700. Most recently I noticed it in a casino and at the visitor center at Hoover Dam. Not a big deal as I can fix it in lightroom, but found a noticeable shift towards the yellow tints.

Below is an example shot at 3200 which has a yellow tint on auto. Lightroom shows the whitebalance as 2800 degrees with a tint of -3 in the original and the corrected shot is 2400 and +11 which has the correct colors.

You're using a Nikon, right.........that's your first problem. You might want to go into your camera's menu and create some custom color settings.

Yes, my D700 is still a Nikon

Custom profiles would not help for these one off quick shots -- well it would but who has time for that. I just find it odd that auto white balance works just fine until you start boosting the ISO. Again not a big deal since I shoot raw and can easily correct, I just find it strange that this happens on a consistent basis.

One of the DPReview conclusions for the D700 was that auto white balance was unreliable in artificial lighting situations....
At high ISO the camera is getting even less light and is probably exaggerating the tendency.
