Default Which camera to take???

So this coming weekend, we are taking the kids to Washington DC for the WorldWide Day of Play.
I am secretly just as excited as the kids, if I am honest. I really want a photo of me and Spencer from iCarly. I love him. He is hilarious.
Anyways, I am having a horrible time trying to decide which camera to bring along.
I have a point and shoot that at one point took pretty decent photos, but it has been having some issues. The P&S would be awesome because it is small. I do have to keep track of three young children in a washington dc crowd. And if something happens to it, not going to break my heart.
But the dslr would be awesome for getting photos of the performances. I would have to bring two lenses though, one for close up snapshots of the kids with the stars, and one for the distance shots. But it is big and heavy, I am going to have to carry it on my body, it may impede me from being able to play with the kids, and I am going to worry all day about "protecting" it.

I just don't know though.........which one would you bring?

Whats more important to you? Having a great fun day with the kids but not getting any decent photos, if any at all? Or getting heaps of great photos but not enjoying the day?
If my choice was a fun day out with the kids and no photos, or crappy day with great photos I know what I would pick. Remember if you enjoy don't yourself your kids might not either.

A Lowpro Sling Bag may be your answer Nicole.

I'm the opposite, as my gf will testify, it's all about the photos :P

Well, No Photos is absolutely not an option. There must be some photos. That is just how I roll. If there are no photos, it is almost like it never happened. However, the quality of those photos is completely negotiable. I do not expect anything more than snapshots from the day.
I fear that no matter which camera I bring, that partway through the day, I will regret my decision. After a couple of hours of carrying around the dslr, I am going to be hating life. Or I will miss photo-ops with the p&s because it is too slow or doesn't have the reach.
Maybe I will look into a better bag and bring them both. No way on this earth will I carry around my current camera bag. It is absolutely horrible as far as comfort and easy access.

Oh yes. I want one. Really badly. But I am waiting. Seems like if you wait long enough, prices come down quite a lot with electronics. Last I saw they were running about $500. When they are down to the $400 range, then I will start thinking about it for real.

Just throw on the 50mm and call it a day. I would think it would be almost as light as a P&S.

Because I am EVIL-minded as well, check out the price on this one:
