Default For all you gadget freaks..

Now this is cool...

Aputure Limited - Gigtube Wireless Digital Viewfinder

I found one of these for sale last week second hand at a 1/4 the new price, and bought it for my birthday.. It arrived today, and it does exactly what it says it does.. It works bloody well too.. Only niggle is not being able to change any settings like the autofocus point or the aperture, but hey, for setting up a camera somewhere that I can't get to.. Over the edge of a cliff on a rope for example, or wrapping my camera up in plastic in a storm and sitting somewhere comfy while I take photos of the mayhem, it's bloody superb..

I'm sure I could get up to all sorts with candid shots if I was a perv, but from my point of view, it's going to change the nature of my photography... In Switzerland we have some little rodents called Marmots, they're lovely creatures, basically large ground hogs, but they're incredibly shy.. I happen to know where some hang out, but so far have only been able to grab them at a very great distance at the very long end of my lens.. Now I'm going to be able to set this up and back away and wait.. Prepare for some stunning wildlife photos!

Ooooohhhh... I'm so happy!

Isn't that the cat's meow! What will they think of next for us to purchase?

My wish list is long enough. I can see how this would be really cool, but I don't know that I'd ever be able to justify the price.

LoL.. That's why I was soooo happy to get it used at the price I got it at

Nice toy. I couldn't find a price, so I guess if I have to ask the price I can't afford it. Secondly, none of the listed models will work with my little starter camera. Oh well.

Jon...I'll be waiting to see some action after all that smack you talked.

I just googled it
The retailers listed it at ~$250 US.

I can't think of any situations where I'd absolutely have to have this. The marmot situation above makes sense, but I'm not going to leave my camera somewhere in the hopes that something cool will show up in front of the viewfinder. Not everywhere's vermin are that predictable.

Besides creepy-perving, what else could this be used for? Distant self-portraits in sweeping landscapes? Even then if you need to adjust the framing you have to walk back to the tripod...

LoL.. It cost me $75... Couldn't resist it..

There's lots of places round here that I could shoot, but couldn't see the viewfinder.. The D7000 doesn't have an articulated LCD, but the Marmots are where I'm hoping to get a few good shots.. They're quite famous round here, I think I might get a few photo sales out of this..
