Unhappy Raw and jpeg

I wanted to photograph a wedding in raw and Jpeg. So I set my D70's on that setting and did a few test shoots. After the wedding when I downloaded the compact flash cards two of them downloaded both and two just jpeg. Any ideas???

It's going to seem like that if you're looking at them in something like iPhoto. But (assuming you are using iPhoto[probably the same for whatever the windows equivalent is]) if you hit "Show File", you'll see the files on your harddrive, and you'll have both a .JPEG and a .CR2, which is the RAW file. Hope this helps!

I'm not sure, but I didn't think that Photoshop recognizes RAW files, so it will only see the JPEGs.

I was right. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407110.html

So you need to use a program that can work with RAW files, then convert them to JPEG so you can work with them in Photoshop.

I was right. Can't open Camera Raw file | Photoshop, Photoshop Elements

No no no no no. No. No no. Photoshop CERTAINLY works with RAW images; it's one of its best features, at least in my opinion. You just have to ensure that you have an up to date version of the Camera RAW plugin (you may have to get a newer version of Photoshop, depending on the camera) to be able to edit the RAW images. If at all avoidable, don't convert to JPEG prior to editing.

Don't know about the D70s, but my camera has different user menus that I can select. Each one has a different (user selectable) image quality setting, so if I change settings mid shoot, I might accidentally go from raw+jpeg in one menu to raw only in another...maybe this happened to you. (I never use jpeg only, but it is an option)

What????? Please don't answer questions if you don't know the answer.. Photoshop uses Adobe Camera Raw, which is a RAW file editor. DO NOT convert the files to JPEG, if your RAW files are not being recognised by Photoshop, you may need to update your ACR version. You can find the updates here on the right hand side:

Adobe - Downloads
