Default Reading a very helpful photography book!

I was browsing through the forums the other day, and came across this thread:

Baby Photography..

Even if you don't care anything about Baby Photography, hear me out. SusanH1970 offered a ton of helpful advice in that discussion. One of her first recommendations was this book:

Amazon.com: Understanding Exposure, 3rd Edition: How to Shoot Great Photographs with Any Camera (9780817439392): Bryan Peterson: Books

I checked it out right away, and bought a copy for my Kindle reader. I've just started reading it this weekend, and already am very impressed. The author explains things in a very easy to understand way, uses lots of examples, and has exercises for you to do to help you learn what he is talking about. He also has a website with forums and training videos related to the lessons in the book. One thing I would recommend, though, is only get the electronic edition if you have a Nook or Kindle that has color, because I am missing out on a lot d/t only having b/w version of Kindle.

If you are like me and wanting to get out of using "Auto" mode on your camera, this is a great book for learning how to do it!!

oh by the way kindle doesn't have colour yet. i just re-read and you said to get it for the nook colour or the kindle that has colour haha. I hope kindle doesn't make an LCD "e-reader" like the nook. I was so annoyed that they made a nook with LCD instead of e-ink. that completely defeats the purpose of an e-reader to begin with. Hopefully they will come up with some colour e-ink technology soon.

Thanks for the recommendation First Light! I'm ALWAYS looking for new books to read! Is he the guy that authored "Learning to See Creatively"? I really liked that book, too.

I have Kindle for PC (but not a Kindle device) and I've noticed something particularly irksome... Not all of the pictures show up. With a regular book, it's not an issue. However, in a book with a lot of diagrams or example photos (where the author is referring to said image to help explain a concept) it can be a pretty big annoyance.

Have you tried the Kindle App? I use it instead of a kindle device on an android phone and it works great, including colour pictures.
And it's free.

Jeannie, I was reading in this thread earlier, and noticed that you are having some trouble with settings on your Canon Rebel T3. That is the camera that I use, and I think I can safely say: this book will help you! (And you can change the f-stop without going to the menu, send me a personal message if you want more info.)

I LOVE my Kindle, but it definitely does have it's issues vs. "traditional" paper books. I noticed in my Reader's Digest that pix are missing, as well. I guess you take the good with the bad.

I am fundamentally opposed to phones that think they are "smart"er than me! Call me old-school, but I don't do much with my phone other than call people and text. I don't even get email on my phone. So no app for me.

I purchased the hard copy - one of the first books I bought when I took up photograpy again. You're right FL, it's a good, easy to follow book.
