I can't say. I wish we could just get out of here. We are pouring way too much money into this place and its not worth it. I say gaurd our own borders and keep our troops on home soil.

I thought we weren't allowed political threads?

We won't ever really know. Only the highest levels of government truly know.

Now there is a leap of faith I am not prepared to make

Justified, absolutely.
Short sighted... even more so. They never had an end point and they still don't. I admire the effort troops, esp SF troops put in there, but the reality is that it will never end.

Thank your lucky stars don't live there.

I did not think this was political. That wasn't the point of it all. I was just asking a question. I sure hope this thread does not turn into some big internet fist fight.

Political threads are fine when those that participate act like reasonable and well behaved adults. That is unfortunately not possible when conversing with people who see everything through an emotional prism.

As far as I am concerned if you start a war you should fight it to win and in the shortest time frame possible. Sherman was right and so was Patton. Total capitulation of the enemy is the only way to prosecute a war. So I think we have done it wrong in A-stan and even in I-wreck. We haven't done it right since WWII.

Why haven't we been able to do it right since WWII? Because we elected politicians who are emotional instead of logical.

By the way this is a stupid poll.

This is how I feel. One of my friends' husband almost got blown up over there and now has a brain injury and is suffering from PTS. I met another man recently who went through a similar situation. Boy he had some interesting opinions on what should be done with this situation. I won't share because I am sure that many people will disagree with what he said. But I so wish that all of those troops would come home. So many dead. So much money wasted. It was different when the attack was on our soil. But now I think it is time for them to come home. Protect our borders like you said. Protect our homeland.

hmmm, where have I heard that before? Seem to recall those very words spoken by the OP (Izzy) about the poll I started about unions in the US.
