Question Audio recorder

I'm posting this here because I figured it is not "photography gear" no hard feelings to admins if it belongs somewhere else.

I'm getting a bit more interested in video. The one problem is that my 50D has no mic input. What I'm looking for is some sort of thing (like a digital tape recorder/Walkman) that I can clip to my belt and plug a hotshoe mounted mic into. Google turned up nothing. Anyone know about something like this?

I would to stay under $150 if possible.

Thanx
Matthew

At $150 you can get a 720p dedicated video cam. I have one of those Aiptek cams from Target. Think I dumped $75 for it and I get all the res I need out of it. Plus when you drop it no tears are needed.

thats a good idea if he isn't looking for a shallow depth of field. but I would say sell your camera and get a Nikon 5100. you can get one for only $800. Soooo depending on what you get for your camera. i guess its probably a little over $150. Although if you want canon, then maybe a 60D? I guess im not really much help. I'll go to bed now.

My depth of field is actually pretty good. What you said is a contradiction. High end cams have shallow DOF and low end ones have huge DOF.

that is what i said. If he isn't looking for a shallow depth of field then a cheap hd camera would work fine.

That's why like using my 50D. The DOF with my 30mm f/1.4 is razor thin. That and find me a 1080p camcorder with the option of using everything from a 10mm lens to a 1300mm lens, and has a sensor that can go to ISO 3200 with out bad noise. Under $30,000

Obviously when I upgrade it will probably be a 7d. That's why I don't want to spend a lot now.

I know you can get a shoe mounted boom mic from ebay for about $35 then you will need a simple digital voice recorder and a pinch of duct tape to keep the goods together. This rig would run you about $60 total. Ebay is your friend.

If you are looking for a lapel mic/wireless they can be had for less than $15 on ebay. Not the greatest but functional.

When doing all this you will need 2 sych sounds. One at the beginning and one at the end. This will allow you to line everything up in PP. Or you can retain the original audio and keep pushing the Aux sound track around until the echo disappears then delete the original sound track in the video file.

Two things, Do digital voice recorders have mic-ins? The ones I have seen don't. Second, this is a 50D, there is no built-in mic. I would sync by using something like a clap.
