Default Nikon vs. Canon vs. Sony vs. Pentax vs. Olympus...

I was browsing another forum on the internet (Home of the Minolta / Sony a-mount dSLR photographer) that gathers a great community of Alpha shooters when I came across this post

R.I.P.... Dyxum (IMHO) - Dyxum forums - Page 1

Eventhoug it begins as a praise for the Dyxum forum I believe that the comments there are inspiring and that will help me stay in track with my photography.

I just wanted to share it here and I recommend that you take the time to read it.

Enjoy.

In my extremely limited experience working with real-world photographers (that is, outside of my classes in college), and professional photographers seem to fall in to one of two camps:
1-helpful colleagues willing to share knowledge and spread the love of photography
2-complete snobs who guard every iota of their experience to prevent competition that may threaten their years of photographic and business acumen. Can be hidden under the belief that the "equipment makes the photographer."

On DPS I've seen both.

However, I've also seen a lot of noobs who demand answers without doing any research beforehand. "Which shutter/aperture to use for ." I didn't read anything on Dyxum beyond the linked article, but if they have better posters to begin with. I'd much rather answer a question about "how does aperture size affect my shot" then "what aperture should I use here, and what should I use there, and which one should I use under a tree on July 28 with a relative humidity of 88% when the subject is my cousin who's getting married and I have a brand new camera doIneedanewlensomgiamtehleetphotographer".

The point of photography for me is that I'm making myself happy. This is something for me..

When I first discovered that I was good enough to be able to answer other peoples questions, sure, I got frustrated by the endless repeated stuff, but then I did two things.. I stopped answering the repeats when I didn't feel like it, and also realised that I had asked those very same questions when I was a noob.. Not because I didn't want to use the search function, but because I thought my problems were unique to me, and I really didn't know what to search for.

So now I've just decided to be happy.. I'll be the fool sitting in the corner smiling to himself.. I don't know anythng more than you, but if you ask me what I'm smiling at, the answer is simply "life"... I've only got one so I might as well enjoy it. (BuddaPi might disagree, but I'll let him prove it in 40 years or so, not yet)
