Default What's you most memorable "I wish I had my camera!" moments?

some photographers, like myself, don't carry around their DSLRs and tend to decide never shoot with a point and shoot camera after going DSLR (like myself). Well I miss out on a lot of awesome moments that I just wish I had my (DSLR) camera to shoot like today for instance.

Today as I was driving home from school I saw the biggest flock of some kind of birds on interstate 81 today (toward Harrisburg, PA) and I just couldn't stop starring at it because I didn't see the line of flock ending... it was such a very large group that kept my eyes and attention on them not the road (sadly and luckily I didn't have much traffic in front or around me). I even looked back as I pass them, I was just sooo fascinated with that moment.

Share your moments here and just said to yourself you wish you had your camera to capture the most unique and memorable moment.

It happens to me when I'm out running! I have said before I have enough problems plodding down the road that I simply cannot imagine having my camera along, but dang if I don't always see something great

My huge Golden Retriever is the one shot I would love to get. He is always quite far up ahead of me on the trail, and every so often he will stop and turn back to see where I am at, it's usually pretty early in the day and the sun will hit him just right, he looks very majestic and so beautiful and it's the coolest, coolest picture in my minds eye!

One of these days I'll get it.......

I don't remember, I didn't have my camera LOL
Seriously happens to me all the time; most recently, coming home from Anna Maria Island there was a gorgeous sunset over the channel with a sailboat bathed in sun rays. It was so gorgeous and I was so mad I didn't have my camera!

That is why I have a bridge camera and it is a point and shoot and takes wonderful shots. I keep it in the car at all times and if I see something I am going to get it unless it is a safety situation than I will move along.

I actually did have my camera. sort of.

I was at Haena Beach here o Kauai. I had the camera all set up out on the beach, shooting people body surfing in the waves. Long lens up on the tripod, etc. My battery started to die, so my wife watched the camera while I went back to the car to get a spare battery I had forgotten there.

As I was walking back, I saw the shot. A local yogi meditating under a tree. He had been there for over an hour. At this point, he was covered in birds. I mean literally covered in birds. Probably around 50 or 60 of them were perched all over him; arms, legs, head, shoulders, everywhere. All kinds of birds too. Brazilian Cardinals, Mina Birds, Mourning Doves and a few others. There he was, in the shade, under this amazing monkeypod tree, jungle behind him. Amazing. I ran to get the battery, then all the way back out to the camera, swapped batteries and ran back with the camera. Thats when he was just standing up and all the birds were gone.

My moment was just yesterday. I get together with a local group of horse people once a week and I've gotten pretty good at remembering my camera. The problem is handling both my DSLR and a horse at the same time. When I've got my old girl with me it's no problem but yesterday I had brought along my young guy. We headed out on a trail ride (his first!) and the camera stayed in the truck because I didn't want anything to happen to it. As it turns out, we had an excellent ride. The scenery was gorgeous and my horse was on his best behavior. No one, not just me, had a camera or cell phone with them so I didn't get any pictures of us. Next time...

I usually have a P & S in my handbag so even if I don't have my DSLR for some reason I won't miss anything. If I'm going out for the day any great distance I will always take my DSLR with me even if I have no actual plans to use it.
There was one time last year whent I saw a fur seal on the beach as I was driving past & I realised I didn't have either camera with me. Fortunately I was less than 10 minutes from home & had time to drive home & get the camera. Managed to get quite a few good shots before a few more people turned up and got too close & he decided the sea was a better option.
Thats why I always have at least a P & S with me now.

Unfortunately, I had my camera with me. I was at work a few of weeks ago and the local water people came to flush the hydrant out in front of the store. He aimed the water at the side of his truck to contain the spray. The camera was 15 feet while I stood there at the door with someone else watching the high pressure spray hit the truck and went everywhere. I have been kicking myself ever since.

There are many in the past (more like I wish I had A camera. ANY camera, moment) but I blocked them out of my mind. It's just frustrating thinking of those moments.

This morning. I saw a nice looking tombstone but didn't like being seen taking pictures of it. So I went out at 5 am. Walking on my way back home, A deer suddenly popped out of the rice field and started running away. With the dawn light + gold and green rice field, and my current POV, the scene looks just awesome! In my mind, this is the perfect situation where SLRs come in handy (being quick and all)... except that my hands are thickly bandaged, my right arm on a sling, my right leg on a cast, and my camera was in my backpack. All I could do was capture the moment in my mind-- and force myself to forget about it later... again.

Once, driving along the road in some rolling hills and a storm rolled in over the hills into the valley.. And then, to my wonder, a thin spout started forming, and for the briefest moment a tornado touched down in front of my eyes.. By this time I'd stopped the car and just sat there watching, awe struck.. As the baby tornado fizzled and died I sat thinking "Damn... Why didn't I get my camera out??" So I did, and just managed to get the tail end of it, but I was really disappointed not to have got the camera out when the thing touched the deck..
